The main reasons for hunger in Poti and Western Georgia are the high level of unemployment and poverty. Many individuals and families have inadequate access to nutritious meals and basic resources.
Poti is the main transport corridor for the trade in the Caucasus and Central Asia, but not much is given back to the community. The Believe Foundation is keen to bring the community together and tackle social problems by ensuring basic resources such as food, clothes, textbooks, and other necessary items for the socially unprotected children, adults and elderly persons.
The organisation carries out various projects, particularly:
COATS – an annual Community Outreach Project “Clothing Others Against the Snow” (COATS) aims to collect winter wear and distribute among the children in need. In 2014 the Believe Foundation together with Radisson Batumi made all efforts to give winter warmth to over 150 children from orphanages, day care centers, and socially vulnerable families in Poti and Batumi.
I Believe In Santa Claus – The campaign gives children in need a reason to believe in the generosity of Santa Claus and miracles during the Christmas season. It unites lots of responsive and kind-hearted people. In the 2015-2016 holiday seasons, Believe’s Santa delivered various presents such as warm shoes, coats, toys, books, bicycles, and other items to socially unprotected children. It made more than 135 children’s wishes come true, and helped their Christmas be unforgettable.
Toys For Tots – Within the scope of this campaign, Believe collects toys and then delivers them to nurseries, kindergartens, and socially unprotected children. Various private companies, schools, and individuals supported this campaign in 2016 and as a result more than 2000 toys were distributed to 15 Public kindergartens.
Give Food – The goal of the campaign is to ease hunger and support with nutrition those in need. Believe delivers non-perishable food during the New Year and Easter to the Poti-based Union of the Deaf and socially unprotected families.
